Porsche 911 GT2 RS Continues Production After several Cars Lost On Sinking Cargo Ship

It’s no secret that Porsches are incredible cars. Even if you don’t like the constant fanboying, or the fact their design language hasn’t really changed for the past twenty years, it’s difficult to argue that they are not serious bits of kit. So hearing that the Porsche you just ordered is now laying at the bottom of the sea bed would be a bit of a turnoff, right?

That’s exactly what happened to a handful of hopeful owners of the GT2 RS, a car that was supposed to end production in February. But after the cargo ship, Grande America, sank off the coast of France meaning several of these new Porsches plummeted to the lonely depths of the ocean, Porsche will be continuing production to make up for their losses.

Around 2,000 cars in total were lost, including that of Audi A3s, A5s, Q7s, RS4s and RS5s, each ready to hit dealerships in brazil. Thankfully all of the crew are safe, escaping on a lifeboat before there were any serious injuries.

While Porsche haven’t publicly announced what’s happened (Audi Brazil have confirmed this, however), a Brazilian customer has shown CarScoops a letter he received from the German manufacturer regarding his (almost) Porsche.

So if you really fancy a Porsche and don’t mind a bit of algae lining your bucket seats, maybe whack on a pair of flippers and have a look around the French Coast? If not, then I’d continue the search on AutoTrader instead.
