Rumour: Upcoming Chevrolet C8 Corvette Models To Pass 1,000HP Mark

The C8 Chevrolet Corvette has split the industry in two as journalists decide if the mid-mounted V8 that powers the car suits its supercar likeness. But now, a rumour suggests that the C8’s already potent V8 might be getting even more powerful.

Angus Mackenzie (International Bureau Chief at MotorTrend) of Mid-enginecrovetteforum.com published an article in Wheels Magazine which reveals some information on 4 upcoming C8 models including the Z06, E-Ray, ZR1, and Zora.

The new Z06 is said to be powered by a V8 that’s similar to the Cadilac BlackWing 4.2-liter V8. But the turbo will be coming out, and instead, a flat-plane crank and upgraded head assembly will give this powerful powerhouse NA power. According to the article, it will produce 544 horsepower (406Kw) at 9000rpm.

If that engine lives up to its hype, it will outperform comparable engines from the GT350 Mustang (529 HP). The flat-plane crank V8 in the Mustang, on the other hand, has been problematic with durability. There was no indication if Chevy has found a solution to the vibration problems endemic to that engine arrangement.

The C8’s anticipated features are laying the groundwork for a major upgrade. However, the buzz doesn’t stop there. The Z06 is just one of four trim levels in the Corvette family. For the first time ever, an electric hybrid powertrain will be available on a Chevrolet vehicle lineup with the E-Ray. According to reports from Detroit, sources inside General Motors have confirmed that it will be all-wheel drive.

It’s also said that two of the models will get a turbocharged engine and possibly break the 1,000-hp barrier. The C8 ZR1 is anticipated to compete against those turbos and a wider rear end to take the C8 performance to the next level. The ZR1 Zora is expected to include all four trims and integrate a twin-turbo V8 combined with a hybrid motor, according to reports. According to rumors, it may be possible for the ZR1 Zora to become the most powerful Corvette ever produced. While we wait for that, there’s another 1,000+horsepower C8 that you could be checking out.

Angus goes on to state that the C8 line appears to be following the Porsche 911 model. Even claiming that Chevrolet is aiming to bring this group to market in order to compete with Porsche. However, there was no timetable for release set for any of these variants.

The ZR1 Zora is rumoured for a 2023 release.
