Seen Through Glass Drives The Maserati MC20: “Absolutely Spectacular”

The Maserati MC20 was revealed to hopeful eyes that saw a return for the great Italian marque that has been lost for so many years. But, while the car looked pretty damn good in my eyes, it was a definite flash in the pan moment.

Since its first spot a couple of years ago, I’ve heard very little about it.

Jeremy Clarkson reviewed the £200,000 supercar for a recent column and was very positive about it, but even that didn’t get too many people talking. Now, one of our favourite YouTubers, Seen Through Glass, has had the change to get to know it thanks to Alexander’s Prestige.

“Don’t hate me – For some reason,” Sam tells us, “I haven’t paid this car much attention since it launched a couple of years ago, it’s kind of fell off my radar until early this year when the international press drives took place. And since then, every journalist I follow online has been going crazy about it saying it’s the best thing ever.”

He settles into the car and admits that he didn’t know the car had butterfly doors and that after he heard the leaked clips of the engine, he didn’t like the sound of it. Maybe a coffee will sweeten the deal?

“I was going to say that the interior design and layout actually super simplistic and really nice, but that seems like an afterthought,” Sam says pointing to the single cupholder between the seats before they head back to the dealer to talk about the interior.

“This car’s kind of surprising and confusing. Maybe it’s because I knew so little about it, that there are things that I’m like, ‘oh wow’, it’s got this lovely sort of marble/crushed carbon fibre.

“And the doors got like this and the F1 tech and the engine is genuinely genius. These are things I  probably did know at the car launch, I’d just forgotten over time. But there’s a whole lot of things that I never was expecting. Like, the simplicity of the interior, the fact that the cars are very comfortable and usable GT car.

That drive to the farm shop was lovely. It was sedate. It was, dare I say, even a bit boring. The car is as good as a 911 turbo S, McLaren GT, even a Bentley Continental, just doing everyday stuff.

“Okay. I haven’t checked out the boot space yet, but I thought it was going to be harsh, rattling carbon tub, noisy, just Italian supercar-esque.

“But no, it feels German, very German.”

Watch the video to see what Sam thinks about the car once he gets behind the wheel alongside Supercars of London’s Paul Wallace.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
