Suzuki Reveals A Jimny Pickup – And We Want One Badly
Oh Suzuki…. thank you so much for giving us the Jimny. The mini G Wagen is a simplistic, affordable, and good looking little off-roader that has taken the world by storm. And because of this, has risen Suzuki from the dingy depths it had been residing in for a few years (minus a few models that were secretly very good).
But I think the boys at Japan have just put the cherry on top of the little corker. They’ve slapped some chunky wheels and tyres on it, added beaming spotlights to its crown, placed a couple of tow hooks either side of the number plate, and adorned its grill with the original Suzuki badge. Ah, perfection. But then they went to work with an angle grinder.
The rear seats have been pulled out and the roof removed leaving what could be the perfect little off-roader behind. For the finishing touches, they’ve left some Woodie-style wood panelling down the side and wider flares. Excuse me. Let me just wipe up my drool.
But, if for some reason you’re not currently trying to sell your grandparents in order to buy one, they’ve produced a jacked up ‘Survive’ spec which maintains a complete roof. Although you do lose the rear windows in exchange for some roller shutter blinds. Personally, I’m not sure it could get any cooler.
This one’s been built to accompany your inner tomb raider with protection from its skid plates and exo-roll cage. It also has a more clearance and all-terrain tyres for when the going gets tough. Engines haven’t been revealed, but I’m sure we’ll see the nippy little 1.5-litre from the recent Jimny tucked under the bonnet. It may only produce 101bhp, but in something that can be delivered to you through your letterbox, it’s more than adequate.
Both models will be shown off at the Tokyo Auto Salon next week. I’ll be around snooping for a date of release because unfortunately, these models are both being classed as ‘concepts’ for now. Hopefully that will change because there’s nothing I now want more in life than a wood panelled Jimny pickup.
