This DeLorean DMC-12 Restomod Is Exactly What We All Need

Restomodding a car is starting to become a booming business. Classic 911s are being pulled away from death by Singer, and if you now want a Porsche with a bit of spice, they’re the ones to look to, not Porsche necessarily. Unfortunately, there are cars that aren’t being given the same levels of nurture. The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of these cars.

While there’s plenty of parts available for the old time machines, no one has yet successfully managed to modernise the cars. Can you imagine if someone did a Singer and brought these slow and inefficient vehicles into the 21st Century? Brazilian artist Thiagod3sign has done exactly that.

Well, sort of. The images you’re looking at are renders, so while you can see that the unpainted stainless steel body of the original has covered in a gloss black and the arches are now wide enough to get a disability allowance, we’ll have to imagine its modernised powertrain.

But let’s just take a minute to take in the renders. LED lights frame the front grill, and a ducktail spoiler sits on the rear of the car over a large splitter and dual exhausts. It’s been lowered, and sits on low profile tyres over black deep dished wheels, and from the rear shots you can just make out a roll cage.

There are no interior shots so we’ll have to swing for that, but we can certainly imagine a powertrain to match this potent exterior. And I know many of you might hate me for this, but an all-electric powertrain might just suit the look. Plus, the car comes from an idea of innovation, which is fitting of an electric powertrain. Unfortunately, this one won’t be powered by Mr Fusion.
