When we first saw the press release for the Mercedes E63 S, our first thought wasn’t that of more power. 603 bhp from a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 is more than enough for a family saloon, but one owner had different ideas. This specific car is tuned to produce 788 bhp, 185 more than a factory-fresh example, and thanks to that, can accelerate to 62 mph in just 3 seconds. That’s about as fast as the new Ford GT if you can believe it.

It is blisteringly quick with an exact 0-62 mph time of 3.06 seconds from a dead stop. To get to 124 mph, it took only 9.72 seconds. That is devilishly quick with a final quarter-mile time of 10.67 seconds. On the Autobahn, it reached a terrifying 191mph with little effort.
With Mercedes teasing a hybrid powertrain in the coming year, we can’t wait to see what kind of figures its future cars are going to produce. It’s going to be a very good year for the automobile.
