Toyota GR Supra Gets 500 Horsepower And New Bodywork With New Rare Variant

With the fourth generation of the Toyota Supra being one of the most iconic tuner cars of the ’90s, and possibly ever, it’s only natural that modern tuning companies jump at the chance to modify the new A90. And while we’ve already seen a host of tuned A90 Supras already, this one is a whole new take on the idea.

Built by Japanese tuner and racing team SARD – a company that’s no stranger to racing, being the first Japanese tuner to enter the Le Mans 24 Hours – this Supra boasts more power and large changes on the exterior of the car.

Beginning at the front, it’s much more aggressive than the stock car, with a wider track and extra air intakes. Moving up over the hood, there’s more venting here, and the whole structure of the hood has been changed to a clamshell design with it curving down the side of the car to meet the wheel wells.

Down the side it has more pronounced hips, and the rear of the car is again more muscled with more venting, a new diffusor, and larger exhaust tips match a slightly larger ducktail spoiler.

It’s under the bodywork where this car gets even more interesting, with the same 3.0-litre straight-six from BMW now producing 493 horsepower and 505 lb-ft of torque over the stock 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft. This is thanks to a high-flor BorgWarner turbo, a billet compressor wheel, a titanium exhaust, and a sports catalytic converter, all harmonised together thanks to a remapped ECU.

0-62mph now sits at under 3.7 seconds, and to deal with this increased pace, the Japanese tuner has increased the rigidity of the chassis, added some stiffer anti-roll bars, and a set of adjustable suspension. To slow down again, each corner has been treated to some large Alcon brakes with six-pistons upfront. To hide these, they’ve used large 20-inch alloy wheels and wrapped these in Bridgestone Potenza S007 sticky rubber.

Only 20 of these cars will be built with each one holding a price tag of 12,500,000 yen, translating to around $120,000. The stockGR Supra in comparison starts at $40,000. Worth it?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
