Toyota GT86 Reveal Is Teased For Early April Alongside Subaru

Recent rumours that the new Toyota GT86 reveals is being pushed back may well be false as Toyota has teased a joint reveal alongside Subaru for early next month.

Scheduled for April 5th 2021, we assume this event will be the joint unveiling of both the Subaru BRZ, which Subaru has already shown us, and the new Toyota GT86, reportedly changing its name to the GR86 thanks to its Gazoo Racing connections. While this hasn’t been confirmed, it would come as no surprise with Subaru and Toyota sharing the development of the new rear-wheel drive sports car. Toyota’s Gazoo Racing president, Shigeki Tomoyama will also be present.

The BRZ has been confirmed to use a 2.4-litre naturally-aspirated Boxer engine producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque – a happy increase original’s 205 horsepower and 156 lb-ft. A manual gearbox will still be available and will be the weapon of choice for those who want the raw driving experience this model will inevitably give us. This one, however, will give us an automatic rev-matching blip on downshifts.

While the Toyota will share the same powertrain, it’s been rumoured to have a different suspension setup to separate itself from its Subaru doppelgänger. Thankfully, it won’t be long until we can confirm these details.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
