F1 News: Aston Martin Investigated Over Red Bull Similarities Ahead Of Spanish GP

Aston Martin, like many teams this weekend, is bringing an upgrade package to their AMR22 for the Spanish Grand Prix. But it looks as though fans have drawn some similarities to the Red Bull.

Both drivers Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel will be running upgraded cars this weekend, with the hopes for the team to start competing at the top end of the grid, or at least higher than the Constructor championship results currently reflect.

The upgrades consist of new sidepods, which are very similar to the Red Bull in design, and with Aston signing Dan Fallows, a previous Red Bull employee, it’s not a stretch to believe that these designs were copied. But new reports today have confirmed that despite the car looking like a copy of the Red Bull, Aston Martin has proven that this design was in their wind tunnel last Autumn.

“The values in the wind tunnel got better and better, and the curve showing how much downforce we would get for it pointed steeply upwards. A month later, we then discovered that we weren’t getting any further.

“That we had to place the car higher and higher the more downforce we grabbed onto it. And that made the car fall out the window that we designed it for. So we were moving backwards.”

With Aston Martin finding the beginning of this season very difficult, let’s see if they can improve over the European leg.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
