F1 News: Audi Slams Mercedes Within Moments Of Confirming Place In The Sport

Audi has confirmed that they will be joining the F1 grid from 2026 after rumours of this happening surged around the internet for a good few months.

Both Audi and Porsche – both brands under the VW umbrella – have been wanting to enter F1 for a long time, but with 2026 being a large overhaul for the cars and their powertrains, it’s no surprise that they’ve chosen now to get involved.

These changes come in the form of removing the MGU-H from the turbocharged V6 engines, as we as a number of changes to reduce the overall cost of each car, helping with the rather limiting cost cap.

Audi also revealed their F1 livery in Belgium:

But within moments of them joining the sport, they slammed Mercedes for not building their powertrains in Germany despite being a German brand, and Twitter has gone nuts for it.

In a statement, Audi released:

“Audi enters the premier class of motorsport. From 2026, the premium brand will compete in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship with a specially developed power unit. The project will be based at Audi Sport’s facility in Neuburg near Ingolstadt. This is the first time in more than a decade that a Formula 1 power train will e built in Germany.”

Audi then followed up with yet another jab at Mercedes, as they posted, “Rings are the new stars”.

I’m loving this already and can’t wait to get Audi in the F1 ring. See what I did there? No? Okay…

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
