F1 News: Carlos Sainz Admits He Was Suffering With Pain During Miami GP From Friday’s Crash

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz may have had a great run at the Miami Grand Prix finishing third behind teammate Charles Leclerc and winner and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen, but he’s revealed that he’s been suffering with pain after a crash on Friday.

Friday’s second practice saw Sainz hit a concrete wall at Turn 14, and while the Spanish driver was able to qualify second on the Saturday, he crossed the line 8 seconds behind the leader today. But not only was the race extremely physical for all the drivers, Sainz was suffering from neck pain on top of this.

“I’ve been better,” he said immediately after the race. “Obviously, after the crash from Friday I still had a bit of a neck pain going into the race, but I had to manage it and I fought through it.

“Especially with Checo on the end on the medium tyre, it was very difficult to keep him behind, but we managed to keep the podium, which is a decent result.”

The heat and humidity made this race incredibly difficult for drivers, cars, and pit crews, but this didn’t stop Red Bull and Ferrari from dominating the race. Sainz is still yet to win this season, but is feeling happy with his podium finish.

“It wasn’t easy at all,” he admitted. “It’s been a tough race with the tyres, with the heat. The car was moving and sliding a lot.

“But in the end, we got what we deserved I think, which is a decent P3, and we can build it up from here. I want more but it’s not bad.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
