F1 News: Ferrari Drivers React To Their Incredible Bahrain Grand Prix Win

The Bahrain Grand Prix has started the 2022 season of F1 with a bang as Ferrari dominated the race alongside Red Bull. But, in an insane turn of events we watched both Red Bulls retire during the last couple of laps as they both suffered from powertrain problems. Because of this, Mercedes brought in a 3rd and 4th place from Lewis Hamilton and George Russell respectively.

Now, race winner Charles Leclerc and his teammate Carlos Sainz have commented on their performance during the race.

“Yes, so happy,” Leclerc told the press. “The last two years have been incredibly difficult for the team. We knew it would be a big opportunity for us and the guys have done such an incredible job in building this amazing car.

“Starting in best way possible. Pole position, victory, fastest lap, one two with Carlos, we couldn’t have hoped for any better.

“I was trying to be as clever as possible, brake early in Turn One and twice it worked out. I took back my first position and I am incredibly happy to make it work.”

Carlos Sainz has said “Ferrari is back” after finishing second:

Well first congrats Charles and Ferrari. Ferrari are properly back with a 1-2, where the team should be. The hard work is paying off and we are there.

“For me it’s been a very tricky weekend I’m not going to lie. I didn’t have the pace today but I managed to hold it and bring the 1-2 for the team.

“I have some homework to do over the next few days and I’m sure I’ll come back stronger.”

He also commented on the brilliant racing between himself and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen:

“At the restart I had a strong chance because I had a clean restart behind Charles and Max, Max defended well to be fair”

“Suddenly I saw flashing red lights at the back of Max’s car and I thought ‘OK now’s my chance’ and I went for it. He was unfortunate, he was driving well enough to get for P2 but I had a good run on him.

“It is what it is and it’s good for Ferrari.”

We’re hoping to learn more about what pulled Red Bull out of the race as team interviews continue.
