F1 News: Mick Schumacher Hits Sebastian Vettel During Miami Grand Prix [VIDEO]

The final laps of the Miami GP were manic, with Sebastian Vettel, Mick Schumacher, and Esteban Ocon battling for the final points positions, as a 5-second penalty made Fernando Alonso in P8 vulnerable.

Mick Schumacher – still yet to score points in F1 – did fantastically to defend from Ocon for several laps following the safety car, considering the Alpine driver had stopped for fresh softs to end the race.

However, Schumacher went from P9 – which would likely have been converted into P8 following Alonso’s penalty – to the side of Sebastian Vettel in just one corner.

Sebastian Vettel had put himself ahead of the Haas driver in the closing stages, with the 4x world champion having driven impressively following Aston Martin’s pitlane start, and was on track to capitalise on the AMR22’s impressive pace.

Back-to-back points finishes were not to be, however, as Schumacher went for a lunge on his friend and mentor with just a few laps left, hitting into the side of Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel’s team radio was relatively restrained under the circumstances, but quite well summed up the collision between the two:

“Where was the gap?”

Schumacher was within his rights to go for the overtake on Vettel but completely missed his braking points, talking out the quadruple champion and ruining both their races in the process.

Aston Martin will be frustrated that a variety of factors cost both Vettel and Stroll points, whilst Haas will rue more points dropped.

Haas F1 remains 8th in the constructors’ standings, and with Aston Martin making visible improvements they will need to rediscover their form from the first two rounds.

Mick Schumacher is yet to score a point in F1, and with another golden opportunity for points squandered in Miami, scrutiny from fans will only intensify, as he continues to disappoint in his first season with reasonable machinery.
