F1 News: F1 Terminates Contract With Russian Grand Prix – “Russia Will Not Have A Race In The Future”

Formula 1 has confirmed that its contract with the Russian Grand Prix has been terminated, meaning the F1 won’t be racing there for at least the foreseeable future.

This cancellation will begin from this year, with both the F1 and F2 rounds not taking place in the country at all. This is a step further from the news we received last Tuesday that announced that the F1 had called off this year’s race, saying it was “impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances”.

Fans will be delighted to hear this most recent update after such a vague dismissal from the F1 previously. Now, the F1 has given the following statement:

“Formula 1 can confirm it has terminated its contract with the Russian Grand Prix promoter meaning Russia will not have a race in the future.”

The contract with Russian GP promoter Rosgonki was scheduled to continue until 2025, 11 years after Sochi initially hosted the legendary racing event. And even before the war between Russia and Ukraine, the event was moving to Igora Drive circuit from 2023.

Fortunately, F1 is confident that it will fill this new hole in the calendar, and it’s already been rumoured that Turkey will take on this responsibility.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
