F1 Drivers Give Their Take On The 2022 Miami Grand Prix Track

The first drive at the Miami Grand Prix is nearing as we edge closer to the weekend, and it’s safe to say that despite the fake water, fans and drivers alike are excited to start the racing. But what exactly do F1 drivers have to say about it? Here’s a collection of all (or the majority) of the comments said by F1 drivers on the Miami Grand Prix track.

Valtteri Bottas

Bottas is very positive about the track, with him looking forward to a number of good spots for overtaking.

“Actually it was nice to see that it seems to be a really good track for overtaking,” he told the press.

“I think the way the track has been planned, I think, from my side, it looks positive. It should be good racing. Pretty long straights and a couple of really good overtaking opportunities.

“So let’s see how it is done in real life, but to me on paper, it looks good. And I’m sure as an event it’s going to be pretty amazing.”

Lewis Hamilton

Lewis hasn’t commented directly on the track, but is obviously very excited to start racing. But who can blame him, I think he’d probably prefer to be watching at this rate.

“There are massive sporting fans out there. And I mean, Miami is going to be an experience for all of us, for the racing community, for those that are the fans out there that are watching, the fans that are going to be flying in that maybe have never been there before.

“The US has a lot to offer in that space. So, it’s super exciting.”

Max Verstappen

Max is an obvious fan of America (who isn’t?), and he’s very much looking forward to Miami after driving it in the simulator. He’s also very proud of the fact that the F1 is finally infiltrating the US successfully. It means a whole lot to the sport.

“I think this weekend is going to be pretty crazy! I’m looking forward to racing in Miami, I’ve driven the track on the simulator and we’ve practiced and prepared as much as we can without visiting the track in real life,” he said.

“I love racing in Austin, so it’s fun that we get to go to another state and race this year. It’s exciting to see Formula 1 getting much bigger in the US.

“F1 and the teams are working hard to promote the sport in the US, and we’re having more and more races here, so step by step we are making it more popular. I also think it helps now the cars are finding it easier to follow and overtake each other and more teams are competing for wins.

“I think that’s the most important thing for the fans. I hope that it’s going to be an exciting weekend, Miami is a really nice city and I think it’s a really interesting location to hold a Grand Prix. I think not only the drivers are excited, but the fans too.”

Charles Leclerc

Charles is excited to put on an entertaining race for F1 fans across the globe while being very

“For me it’s incredible. The place is incredible. It is my first time in Miami, the first day. I‘ve been around the city a little bit. You can see that they have done everything right for it [F1 race] to be a huge event. But it is always the case in the US.”

“American people, in general, are so passionate about sports, and to now have a second race here, especially in Miami, it‘s going to be huge

“So I hope we can put on a good show for the fans!”

George Russell

After racing on a simulator last year, George Russell seems excited to race on the new track and its many corners.

“[There are] Lots of fast-flowing sections, I feel there will be plenty of overtaking opportunities as well but also a real street vibe with some tight and twisty corners,” Russell said on a YouTube videol.

“It will be really interesting to see how we get on when we come here next year but so far so good.”

Sergio Perez

Sergio Perez is apprehensive of a few parts of the track, but overall it sounds like he’s feeling positive about the race. Hopefully his car doesn’t let him down.

“I think it’s a good circuit. I think it has a little bit of a twisty area that is quite difficult to get right, and the visibility can be difficult.

“But I think racing can be good with all those long straights. I just hope the asphalt can be good, and we can have good racing, because when we come to new circuits we find some good surprises.”

 Pierre Gasly

Gasly is hyped for the upcoming racing weekend and the entertainment it will bring. Reading this quote makes me wish the weekend could come sooner!

“I’ve tried it and I must say it looks pretty awesome,” he said. “I really liked the layout.

“Quite a lot of high-speed content, quite challenging, unusual type of corners, extremely long corners, very long straights.

“I think we should have some pretty good American entertainment, good entertainment the whole weekend, so very excited about it and the location is unique.

“So very hyped about the weekend.”

As more drivers make comments, we’ll be sure to add them here. So check back when you can!

Alex Harrington

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
