McLaren’s Mind-Blowing Tribute to Their Motorsport History With New Monaco Livery
McLaren has just revealed their exciting new ‘Triple Crown’ livery, gearing up for the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend. The stunning visuals, shared on social media, show a papaya orange rear wing transitioning to a black-and-white design. This design is reminiscent of McLaren’s maiden Monaco Grand Prix back in 1966.
The press release explained the livery’s homage to McLaren’s esteemed Triple Crown victories, namely the 1974 Indy 500 with Johnny Rutherford, the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix with Alain Prost, and the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans with JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas, and Masanori Sekiya.
The stylish orange at the back of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri’s MCL60 cars signifies McLaren’s first Indy 500 win, gradually shifting to an icy white middle drawn from Alain Prost’s 1984 Monaco GP victory. The front of the vehicle exhibits a black tribute to the F1 GTR that triumphed at McLaren’s first Le Mans attempt.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown expressed his pride in the Triple Crown’s achievement, explaining, “Having achieved the greatest accomplishment in motorsport by completing the Triple Crown, we are proud to celebrate the rich history of McLaren Racing with a special livery at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix. In line with our 60th anniversary celebrations and honouring the legacy of Bruce McLaren, the unique livery pays homage to the three victories which form the Triple Crown accolade.”
Racing driver Lando Norris was thrilled to be part of McLaren’s 60th anniversary, and to drive a car merging three iconic race-winning McLaren liveries at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix. Norris emphasized McLaren’s impressive record in Monte Carlo, mentioning his own podium experience at the 2021 race.
Oscar Piastri, the team’s newest member, was enthusiastic about the livery: “The Triple Crown livery looks incredible, and I can’t imagine a better way to experience my first Monaco Grand Prix as a Formula 1 Driver with McLaren Racing. Bruce McLaren was a winner in Monte Carlo in 1962 and the McLaren team have such rich history at the Monaco Grand Prix. I will feel incredibly proud lining up on the grid in the MCL60, carrying the same colours as the three Triple Crown winning race cars.”
