F1 News: Alfa Romeo desperate to score points after America near-miss

Alfa Romeo’s strong start to the season is now long in the past, with the Swiss-based team failing to match the development of rivals.

Whilst poor reliability and operational errors have played their role, Alfa Romeo’s C42 has lacked the competitiveness to compete against the best in the midfield.

This was not the case in America, where the Swiss-based team was on track to secure important points.

Still, the upgrades introduced to the C42 in recent events (designed primarily to assist development for 2023) have proven to be effective.

An early mistake from Valtteri Bottas prevented this from happening, with Fred Vasseur setting his sights on long-awaited points in this weekend’s Mexican GP:

“We undoubtedly expected more from last weekend. The race pace was promising, and it seemed like points were within reach for us, but eventually, things didn’t go our way.

“Heading back on track right away, we have the opportunity to turn the tide and continue working on our performances, which have been improving with the upgrades we brought in Japan and Austin.

“Mexico will be, as usual, a challenging race due to the altitude and peculiarities of the track, so we must be at our very best to avoid making mistakes.

“We know our cars have the potential to get into Q3, and that should be our aim ahead of the weekend, to put ourselves in a favourable position to get in the fight for points.”
