F1 News: America Tops Merchandise Sales Globally As Miami GP Booms

Thanks to Drive to Survive and other huge marketing strategies performed by the F1 over the last few years, the sport is taking America by storm. Evidence of this is the Miami Grand Prix, F1’s first-ever race in Miami, and next year will see Las Vegas being added to the calendar, too.

Now, it’s no secret that fans and drivers alike have been lapping up what Miami has to offer – the hot weather, the vibrant city, and an entertaining track to boot, but the American people seem to be lapping up what F1 has to offer back to them. According to Adam Stern, a journalist for Sports Business Journal, Miami has topped merchandise sales globally

America has become F1’s top-selling market for merchandise sold online globally, per Fanatics, which runs the e-commerce site and said overall sales are up 135% YOY,” he writes.

“The numbers are based on sales since the start of the season.”

This doesn’t come as a huge surprise with Miami being an opulent and wealthy area, and on top of this, F1 merchandise is known to be very expensive.

“Have you seen the prices – I feel América has a larger demographic that can actually afford to pay the prices,” one fan said.

“That explains the $50 T shirts,” another added.

A third noted that Fanatics’ priority is on US sales:

“Fanatics is only good if you live in the states. It’s almost cheaper as a Canadian to just buy from the States and ship it than use their .Ca website.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
