F1 News: Audi Finalises Acquisition Of Minor Stake In Sauber Group

Sauber has confirmed that, as of today, Audi has acquired a minority stake in the Sauber Group.

Audi’s long-awaited entry into the world of F1 has finally come to a conclusion as the German automaker partners with the Swiss-based team. This collaboration will bring a new level of excitement to the F1 community and fans, as Audi introduces their own power units to the Sauber team starting in 2026. This will add another engine manufacturer to the sport, bringing more competition and diversity to F1.

Sauber published the following in a press release:

“The Sauber Group is pleased to announce that, as per the plans outlined in October last year, Audi acquired a minority stake in the Sauber Group in January 2023.

“This is an important milestone on the way to Audi’s entry in Formula One, scheduled for 2026, for which the Sauber Group will be the German brand’s strategic partner.”

The entry into F1 is a significant step for Audi, as the sport is known for its high level of competition and technological advancement. Audi is aware of the challenges that lie ahead and is taking the necessary steps to ensure they have a strong start when they enter in 2026. The company will spend the next few years preparing their power units to be reliable and competitive, learning from Honda’s experience that it takes time to develop a successful engine in Formula 1.

Sauber, on the other hand, will continue to be responsible for manufacturing and developing the car. This partnership is a continuation for the Hinwil-based squad, who will now have the added advantage of Audi’s power units and technology.

Audi released the following statement:

“The next important milestone on the road to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship has been completed: Audi has selected Sauber as a strategic partner for the project and plans to acquire a stake in the Sauber group.

“The partnership will see the traditional Swiss racing team competing as the Audi factory team from 2026 onwards with the power unit developed by Audi.”

The power unit will be created at Audi’s Motorsport Competence Center in Neuburg an der Donau, while Sauber will develop and manufacture the race car at its site in Hinwil and be responsible for planning and executing the race operations.

This collaboration between Audi and Sauber is a major milestone in the world of Formula 1 and fans can look forward to the debut of this new partnership in 2026. The combination of Audi’s technology and Sauber’s expertise is sure to bring a new level of interest in the sport.
