F1 News: Charles Leclerc recovers to take America podium

The American GP was a race of damage limitation for Leclerc, whose 10-place grid penalty put him on the back foot from the beginning.

Leclerc did well to avoid the carnage at the beginning of the race and make his way through the field, making some strong overtakes and, at one point, contesting for the race victory.

Ferrari’s quite significant tyre wear was ultimately his limiting factor, but the 25-year-old will be satisfied with his points haul – which he expressed post-race:

“It was a fun race, and I really enjoyed the battles with Max and Checo on track today.

“I had a solid start, and after that, the first few laps were all about practising patience.

“Things looked quite good, and we even got lucky with the timing of the Safety Car, but unfortunately, we had a little too much tyre degradation for the rest of the race and couldn’t fight for higher positions

“It was great to be back in the US and see how much popularity our sport has gained here over the years.”.
