F1 News: Huge Crash Bring The British Grand Prix To An Abrupt Red Flag

At the very first corner of the British Grand Prix, a huge crash brought the race to a stop as the red flag was waved. The crash involved Mercedes’ George Russell, Zhou Guanyu of Alfa Romeo, Alex Albon of Williams, and Esteban Ocon of Alpine.

A mix-up between Pierre Ghasly of AlfaTauri, Russell, and Zhou Guanyu saw the Alfa Romeo flip as they accelerated toward the first corner. Both the Alfa and the Silver Arrow slid into the gravel trap. As Russell came to a stop, he jumped out of his car and ran towards Guanyu’s car to assist.

It’s been confirmed that Zhou Guanyu is okay, but has been taken away on a stretcher for further checks, as has Alex Albon. Russell has returned to the pits unhurt along with the other drivers.

As Russell got out of his car to assist, we’re not sure whether we’ll see him return to the race when the red flag is lifted.

We now wait for the track to be cleared as we eat into the time available to race.

UPDATE

George Russell will not be restarting the race as the FIA confirms his car received mechanical assistance after the red flag.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
