F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Has His Say On Abortion Argument In The States
As usual for the 7-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton hasn’t stayed quiet in regards to a feud that’s currently sweeping across the United States. With the F1 currently in Miami for this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, it’s no surprise that he posted to his Instagram stories to discuss this. Women “should have the right to choose what they do with their bodies” he wrote, standing for free choice amongst Americans.
A document from the US Supreme Court was leaked earlier this week. It showed plans to bring a stop to the Roe vs Wade Ruling, which currently protects abortion rights across the country. This was met with complaints from the public, and with him being in Miami, Hamilton couldn’t stand by and say nothing.
“I love being in the States,” the Mercedes driver posted to his stories. “But I can’t ignore what’s going on right now and what some in the government are trying to do to the women who live here.
“Everyone should have the right to choose what they do with their bodies. We can’t let that choice be taken away”.
Hamilton doesn’t shy away from polarising subjects such as these, with him showing his support for several sensitive subjects including LGBTQ rights and the Black Lives Matter Movement. He’s even been vocal about F1 racing in Saudi Arabia, labelling the country “terrifying” with its laws against LGBTQ members of the public.
Hamilton is expecting to receive a number of upgrades to his Mercedes W13 for the Miami Grand Prix.
“Since we returned from Italy, we’ve learned as much from the weekend as we can and, in parallel, our learning has continued in the windtunnel and simulations,” said team principal Toto Wolff.
“We have found several directions for improving the car, and we will be conducting experiments in Miami to correlate those simulations, and hopefully confirm the development path for the coming races.
“Both drivers have been working in the simulator ahead of Miami and the factories have been busy producing updates for the next races.
“The saying ‘smooth seas do not make good sailors’ comes to mind. This team has shown its resilience over many years and the difficult start to this season has lit a fire within every team member, determined to put it right.”
Mercedes has been quite some way off the pace with Lewis Hamilton seemingly more affected by this than teammate George Russell. Hopefully some improvements to the cars will make Mercedes a much more competitive team this weekend.
