F1 News: Lewis Hamilton Looks To Invest £10Million Into Purchase Of Chelsea FC Football Club

F1 driver Lewis Hamilton and tennis star Serena Williams are backing a bid by Sir Martin Broughton to buy Chelsea football club with both athletes promising £10 million each to go towards the takeover which is expected to total £2.5 billion.

Broughton is the chairman of British Airways and another football club, Liverpool FC, and has reportedly been talking with Hamilton and Williams for a number of weeks. Despite Hamilton being very vocal about his support for Arsenal, being a fan of the club since he was five, Sky has reported that Hamilton wants to “play a formal role in Chelsea’s future efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion”.

Chelsea is the current Champions League holder, but have been up for sale since March after Russian owner Roman Abramovich was hit by sanctions thanks to his connections to Russia president Vladimir Putin.

Raine Group is the bank behind the sale and they’re looking to pitch a seller to the government as soon as this week. Broughton, a huge Chelsea supporter, could be in for a shot with him being in contact with a large number of investors.

Hamilton said:

“He asked me to go and train with the team, which I have not managed to do yet, but he was always really welcoming and it was cool to meet ‘our team’s’ boss. I’ve supported Arsenal since I was five.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
