F1 News: Max Verstappen Talks Red Bull Cost Cap Breach – “Not Really Up To Me”

With rumours that Red Bull has breached the cost cap of the 2021 F1 season, Max Verstappen was asked about his views of what’s happening ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.

With rumours that Red Bull have blown past the cap of $145m by a significant margin, fans are wondering what will happen when the FIA releases its findings on the 10th of this month.

Lewis Hamilton has previously been very vocal about how much the Red Bull was developed last year in comparison to this Mercedes, and now Verstappen has been able to share his thoughts:

“I mean that’s normally what should have been the case already,” Verstappen told Sky Sports F1. “I think we have our reasons to believe that we are good – that’s what I’ve been told and we will find out on Monday.

“It’s something between the team and the FIA, and it’s not really up to me. I am here to drive fast and give the best result that I can for the team.”

Obviously, the driver isn’t wanting to get pulled into the conflict between teams and maintains a healthy position outside of the drama.

He was then asked about how he feels about going into the Japanese GP after a challenging weekend in Singapore.

“It would make it a little bit extra special, because of our relationship with Honda,” he said in regards to clinching the championship this coming weekend.

“It was a shame that we couldn’t be here last year, in the title fight. So that’s why we are really looking forward to being back here. We’ll see what happens. We need a perfect weekend, that’s for sure.

“It would be very nice if it happens, but if it doesn’t happen here I will be even more in favour at the next weekend. Doesn’t really change anything, you just want to have a good weekend and maximise everything you can.

“Of course I need a perfect weekend to be able to clinch the title here. But to be honest, I’m not really thinking about it too much.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
