F1 News: Sebastian Vettel Shoots Down F1 Return Rumours – “There Are Others Who Can Do It Better”

Four-time F1 champion, Sebastian Vettel, retired from the sport after the 2022 season. Since the news of his retirement there has been a huge amount of speculation over where the F1 world might see him next. One suggestion has been if we might see him in a commentary role, however, the German driver has shot down those rumours.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was Vettel’s last race and was a particularly emotional weekend for the driver and fans watching. Vettel has spoken about his last race and the things that were put together for his farewell such as the drivers forming a guard of honour ahead of the race start, joining the top three drivers in doing the donuts at the end of the race, and the many highlights from his successful career shown throughout the weekend.

In an interview with ServusTV, Vettel reflected on his last race:

“I think I was very, very lucky to be able to celebrate such a farewell. The recognition from the other drivers and the whole paddock meant a lot to me. I think the atmosphere throughout the weekend was very, very nice towards me and I think very special.” 

Questions over Vettel coming back within a media role have arisen, however, he has shot those down. He said when asked about the rumours:

“No, no, no, let’s not. No, thank you. I think there are others who can do it better.” 

There have also been talks from Helmut Marko of Vettel joining Red Bull, where he won his four championships, although Vettel has not confirmed this.

Vettel made his F1 debut in 2007 driving for Toro Rosso, now called AlphaTauri, and was promoted to Red Bull in 2009 where he drove until 2014. After Red Bull, Vettel made the move to Ferrari for the 2015 season and then moved again to Aston Martin in 2021.
