F1 Rumours: Daniel Ricciardo To Pilot Red Bull At Bathurst 12 Hour In New Year

Australian driver, Daniel Ricciardo, is making a return to the Red Bull team as a reserve driver in 2023. It is thought Ricciardo might be looking at a dream run at the Mount Panorama circuit during the Bathurst 12-hour race in February.

Commercial activities are included in Ricciardo’s reserve driver contract, and although Red Bull have not confirmed his involvement in this event just yet, it is highly likely with his love for the track that he will be making an appearance at the opening event for the Intercontinental GT in February.

Shane Rudkis, event director for the Bathurst 12 Hour, has explained:

“Oracle Red Bull Racing are the current Formula 1 world champions.

“Just to have them at the event is a privilege, but to know that a Red Bull Formula 1 car will be lapping Mount Panorama will be something else.

“This will be a spectacle like nothing we’ve seen at the 12 Hour before and takes the event to an entirely new level.

“This will be the best opportunity in 2023 for Australian F1 fans to get up close and personal with F1 machinery and an even rarer opportunity to see a Formula 1 car lap Mount Panorama.”

This will not be the first time an F1 car has gone round the Mount Panorama circuit, Craig Lowndes and Jenson Button took the McLaren MP4-23 round the track back in 2011.

It was announced earlier in the 2022 season that Ricciardo would not be continuing with the McLaren team after the end of the season. After a lot of speculation over where the Australian driver will go next, it became apparent that Ricciardo would not get a permanent seat for the 2023 season. Shortly after the end of the season, it was announced that he has signed with Red Bull as a reserve driver, who he raced for between 2014 and 2018.
