Former F1 Sponsor Congratulates Lewis Hamilton On 2021 Championship Win: “A Well Deserved World Title”

Rich Energy is a company that doesn’t shy away from causing a bit of a stir. Actually, put a line through that. All they seem to do is cause a stir as they somehow carry on doing business despite having any drinks in shops to actually sell. Anyway… they’ve just congratulated Lewis Hamilton on winning the 2021 F1 Championship after it was announced that Red Bull breached the year’s cost cap.

The company, who used to sponsor the Haas F1 team, has a weird history within the sport. Originally they wanted to sponsor Force India in 2018 as it was going under, but this team was sold to Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll. So, in 2019, they took over Haas instead as its title sponsor.

But it wasn’t smooth sailing for the team as the energy drink company soon pulled out due to the team not going well enough in the season. This was before the season had even come to an end, and the team lost around 30million euros in this drama.

William Storey, the CEO of the strange company, isn’t one to keep quiet on social media, and has even discussed his company entering F1 again as its own team. Of course, this isn’t going to happen, but it hasn’t stopped the CEO from getting involved with current F1 dramas as he takes to the company’s Twitter account:

“An easy decision for the FIA. The integrity of Formula 1 must be safeguarded. Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton on a well-deserved 2021 championship title,” the account posted.

Receiving almost 3,000 likes and 444 retweets, this tweet was well received by the company’s followers.

One of their 23,000 followers responded saying:

“Got to be disqualified for me especially after them saying it. Ultimately if a broken rear wing making Hamilton’s car slower gets him disqualified then breaking the cost cap definitely should.”

Another added:

“If they do that, I will believe in them again. Otherwise, they will just continue to piss on this sport one more time.”

A third also weighed in:

“FIA are cowards. We seen after Abu Dhabi, they will do nothing. The sport is a joke now.”

The resulting punishment or further details on the cost cap breach are yet to be revealed by the FIA, so fans of the sport are waiting eagerly to hear what will happen in the coming days and weeks.
