What Happens If You Give A 900HP Drift Car To A Sim Racer?

What happens when a sim racer takes on a real, 900 horsepower drift car. In fact, this isn’t just any drift car. This Nissan Silvia S15 won the Drift Masters European Championship by the hands of Piotr Więcek so… it’s got some serious respect from drift lovers.

So if Rhys Tatterson, 2021’s Drift Masters Virtual Champion, was to get behind the wheel and write it off, there more than likely would have been some tears. Fortunately, the opposite happened.

Straight away you could feel his confidence as he got used to the speed of the car. But making sure to keep Więcek happy, he didn’t push it too hard until he was told to. But when he did, he took to real-life drifting like a duck to water.

Więcek said the following whilst showing Tatterson the car:

“From my experience comparing one to the other, you don’t have so many g forces [in the virtual world]. You don’t feel what’s going on.”

Tatterson agreed before Więcek admitted::

“Oh, man, if you could tell how nervous I was during the first clutch kick. But then on the second transition, I could see that [Tatterson] was controlling the car with the clutch and really good steering wheel applications. I was like ‘Okay, he’s a natural.’ He was doing it like he’s been doing it for three or four years.”

They’re both drifting in tandem by the end of the video. And I have to admit, it had me beaming from ear to ear.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
