F1: Esteban Ocon hopes upgrades can offer Alpine major boost

Esteban Ocon has spoken about Alpine’s upgrade package for the British GP, which will play an important part in the French squad’s progression this season.

Alpine is currently just behind McLaren in the standings, closing the gap on the Woking-based team after a sequence of consecutive points finishes since the Emilia Romagna GP.

Ocon has emphasised the significance of bringing updates to Silverstone, as quoted by motorsport.com:

“We have quite a bit of upgrades normally coming so there should be a good step for us.

So yeah, big hopes, it’s going to be a big week, starting from Tuesday for us [in the simulator], so a lot of work going ahead. And yeah, hopefully we can perform well, because the car is where it should be.

The team is pushing forward a lot and getting their upgrades early, and not when they were planned.

It’s delivering it’s going in the right direction. And I think since the beginning of the year, we have improved more than a lot of other teams. So yeah, we can be satisfied, and it’s going in the right direction.

Esteban Ocon has consistently found himself in the points this season, not allowing a relatively poor qualifying record against teammate Fernando Alonso to prevent him from delivering top 7 finishes.

A combination of intelligent driving, minimising mistakes and avoiding reliability has allowed the Frenchman to position himself as one of the leaders in the midfield, and will look to continue his performance.
