Jeremy Clarkson Reveals Subtle Tribute To Ukraine As Grand Tour Episode Filming Begins In Norway

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed to fans that filming of the next Grand Tour episode has begun. With a post to his Instagram account earlier today, he’s revealed not only the theme of the episode, but a subtle tribute to Ukraine as the country is under attack from Russia.

The Grand Tour has been trapped within the UK for the last two years, but that hasn’t stopped the show from bringing some of the best content fans have seen to the latest two episodes. With the first being shot in Scotland and the second being shot between Wales and the West Midlands, we’ve been treated to old American land yachts, iconic muscle cars, and the best cars the French have to offer.

But now Jeremy has shown us a couple of cars that will likely be featured in this upcoming episode.

The cars

Shown in the photo is a yellow Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX and a Subaru Impreza WRX STI, two legends within not only JDM car culture, but rally culture, too. Both of these cars are rising in value thanks to their strong following, so there will be lots of fans who are going to love the fact these treasures are being featured on The Grand Tour.

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII

Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder capable of huge mid-range punch thanks to its setup and upwards of 300 horsepower depending on the variant. They were hugely tunable and were adored by drivers thanks to how well they performed on the road, track, and rally stage.  Boasting AWD power, they could hit 60mph somewhere around the 5-6 second mark, again depending on the variant.

Subaru Impreza WRX

As a direct competitor to the Lancer, the Impreza was an equally loved beast of the rally stages with Colin McRae propelling Subaru to the history books. With a boxer engine it produces an iconic lumpy engine sound and creates around 230 horsepower.

A tribute to Ukraine

The cars boast the colours of the Ukraine flag, the flag of a country Jeremy Clarkson recently paid tribute to on his Instagram as he posted a throwback to Top Gear’s road trip through the country to Chernobyl.

Where is the episode set?

According to commenters on the Instagram post, it looks as though this episode will be set, at least partly, in Norway. The photo was shot from a football stadium in Henningsvær, a small fishing village located on a number of small islands off the South coast.

The gorgeous backdrop of the shot shows the mountains of Austvågøya.

Alex Harrington

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
