The Grand Tour’s Jeremy Clarkson Told Not To Drink After Yet more Health Issues

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed in his latest column that his doctor has told him not to drink alcohol. The column in question begins with a story that took place three years ago when he contracted pneumonia while on holiday in Mallorca with his family. The Grand Tour presenter explains how this is the number one reason for cigarette sales plummeting in the UK since then.

“Over the past few years, cigarette sales in Britain have plummeted by 20million a month.

“Some say the health warnings are being effective. Some say it’s the cost. Some say it’s the ban on smoking indoors.”

He continues:

“I, however, know exactly what’s ­responsible.

“Exactly three years ago this week, the world’s heaviest smoker quit. Me.”

Jeremy Clarkson quit smoking when it was revealed to him that it was definitely a factor behind him catching pneumonia.

“I was told, by everyone, that I had to stop. Immediately,” he wrote in a column his column in The Sunday Times. “I had no choice at the time because the blood poisoning was so bad and I was so racked with the resultant rigors that I couldn’t work a cigarette lighter.”

He continues by explaining how people are now urging him to give up drinking or take up running, although he doesn’t show any enthusiasm for these options. Although now his doctor has told him to stop drinking thanks to another health issue that’s now developed.

“I turned 60 and now absolutely everything is going wrong,” he explained in a recent interview. “Today, it’s Super Saturday and I was very much looking forward to going to the pub for seven hundred beers.

“But a doctor has just told me the pain in my neck is being caused by a blocked saliva duct and that to cure it, I must drink no alcohol of any kind. Spiffing.”

He also includes in his column that his knees are getting weaker, and is worried about falling down the stairs resulting in a “tangle of limbs”. Just to add insult to injury he adds, “my finger has gout [and] my right ear is blocked.”

We here at GTN are all for more shows with Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May at the helm, but we must remember that these guys are getting on now, and their unhealthy lifestyle of smoking and drinking may well be catching up on them. I think we can all agree that they need to slow down. I, personally, am more than happy to wait.
