Top Gear To Return To Filming After Coronavirus Shutdown
The BBC has announced plans for some of their top shows, such as Eastenders and of course Top Gear, to return to filming in June having been shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is understood that the stars will be socially distanced, have to do their own hair and makeup and the BBC will be using “strictly limited” crews and stick to the government guidelines.
Director of content at the BBC, Charlotte Moore said:
“We’re also exploring ways to re-start filming on more dramas and other major BBC shows as soon as possible.”
In an article in The Telegraph, Moore went on:
“We’ve been looking very carefully at how we can safely put some of our shows back into production, and I’m pleased to announce that we plan to begin filming again on both EastEnders and Top Gear by the end of next month. Cast members will do their own hair and make-up. Social distancing measures will be in place.”
It appears that Moore is acting as the spearhead to kickstarting the TV, film and production industry with BBC show Neighbours already beginning filming – but with reworked scripts and fewer characters in each scene.
“[The BBC is] determined to do everything we can to kick-start the TV industry and support our brilliant production sector nationwide”.
We’re not sure what the future holds for Top Gear in terms of content, but its great to hear that there are plans in place to get it back up and running again. We should imagine that Series 29 will not feature a studio audience and will be limited on exotic locations for their signature road trips. However, whatever they decide to do – we can’t wait.
